The problem: Thermostats and other wall warts-The cover-up: Hang a shadowbox picture frame over it.
Safety first: Never cover smoke alarms, sprinklers, carbon monoxide detectors, or working thermostats-all require unobstructed air circulation to function properly.
The problem: A hulky old radiator-The cover-up: Paint a pretty pattern, to create a custom stencil, sketch or paint your design on paper, lay a sheet of thin (.003" works well), clear acetate on top, and cut with an X-Acto knife. Use oil-based paint, not latex, to ensure your decoration will be able to withstand the radiator's heat.
The Problem: An ugly, nonfunctioning fireplace-The Cover-up: Build a foam core facade. Purchase a full sheet of foam core for the front of the fireplace to avoid visible seams. Enlist a friend to help affix the wallpaper and install the facade: An extra pair of hands makes it easier to get everything into position before the glue dries.
Use your imagination there are many things around your home you can use to cover up the "uglies" the possibilities are endless.
